SS19: Seismic Behaviour and Earthquake Resistant Design of Long Period Structures

Summary: This special session will cover all aspects of the seismic behaviour, analysis and design of high-rise buildings, long-span bridges and other engineering structures of long period, typically with a fundamental period greater than 3 seconds. Structures in this range exhibit challenging dynamic characteristics, which require to be fully understood in order to achieve effective designs against the detrimental effects of earthquakes. This session will provide a forum for the exchange of the latest findings and experiences between academic researchers and practitioners in the field. Original contributions on theoretical, numerical, experimental, design or construction aspects of long-period engineering structures are invited. Case studies on the seismic behaviour, design and construction of particular long-span bridges and tall buildings will also be welcome.
