SS05: Behaviour of Structures in Fire

Organisers: Prof. Mario Fontana, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland & Prof. Markus Knobloch, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany
Emails: ;

Summary: This special session will address structural fire safety, which is a key consideration in the design of buildings, and a topic attracting world-wide attention. Significant advances in research have increased our knowledge on the behaviour of structures in fire. Some areas are becoming well understood (like the behaviour of single members in conventional building materials), while others areas (such as global behaviour of structures in fire, or constitutive modelling of innovative building materials at elevated temperatures) need further investigation. It is the aim this special session to review progress in this area. The session will provide a forum for the dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas to make use of innovations and advances gained in the field of structural fire safety. Amongst others, the session will address the following topics: Constitutive modelling of building materials in fire; Behaviour of single members in fire; Global behaviour of structures in fire; Fire tests; Numerical simulations
