Summary: To better satisfy society’s need for stronger, safer, more durable, more efficient and more cost-effective infrastructure, innovative solutions are required. Structural projects have become increasingly complex, and engineers face many challenges. This special session will feature presentations on case studies of structural engineering projects which have been completed in the past 5 years, or are under construction. The scope of the discussions will include the planning, analysis and modelling of structural systems, as well as the design and construction of structural projects, including foundations. Contributions describing complex projects successfully completed in recent times (or under construction), or highlighting unique challenges that have been overcome, are particularly welcome. Papers reporting on catastrophic structural failures and lessons learnt will also be of interest. Engineers from the consulting sector, the construction industry, national agencies, government departments and local authorities are all invited to participate.
