SS13: Steel Structures: Nonlinear Behaviour and Design

Organisers: Prof. Leroy Gardner & Prof. Ahmer Wadee, Imperial College London, UK
Email: leroy.gardner@imperial.ac.uk; a.wadee@imperial.ac.uk

Summary: This special session will focus primarily on recent research on steel structures with a particular emphasis on nonlinear behaviour and the effects on current design practice. Contributing topics that will be considered suitable for the session will include those on testing, simulation and design of steel structures. In particular, the following aspects will be covered: modelling geometric and relevant material nonlinearities, which includes elastic and inelastic buckling, coupled instabilities, nonlinear elastic responses of individual structural components and systems, high-performance steels, stainless steel, cold-formed steel structures, hybrid structures and relevant computational and experimental methods.
