SS16: Non-Linear Dynamics & Stability

Summary: This special session will cover linear and non-linear dynamics and problems related to dynamic stability. Also of interest will be the non-linear vibration of systems with concentrated and distributed mass, stability problems, and post-critical response processes. Deterministic as well as random formulations, including additive/multiplicative excitation and related self-exciting processes, will be considered. Topics will include stability definition, types and criteria, bifurcations, non-linear normal modes, limit states, limit cycle oscillations, internal resonance within non-linear systems, auto-parametric processes, transition and other unsteady effects, quasi-periodic interaction, and analogous themes. Contributions on analytical, semi-analytical, numerical or simulation studies based on multi-degree of freedom and/or continuous models are welcome, as are experimental investigations representing independent research or conducted as verification/validation of on-going theoretical studies. Papers reporting interesting practical applications in physics and engineering, including case studies and interactions with other areas of mechanics and physics, will also be of interest. Interdisciplinary investigations reflecting current developments in the field are encouraged.
